Eat up the authentic Japanese local foods in Fujinomiya town at the foot of Mt.Fuji
Start with a sample of crisp Mt. Fuji spring water from a local shrine and learn the history of Fujinomiya the closest city to Mt Fuji. Largely off the beaten path, this charming city is famous for its food culture, and one of the best places to visit for an authentic and unique Japan experience. We start with Fujinomiya's famous yakisoba (fried noodles). The dish was invented in Fujinomiya after World War II when people sought out ways to keep food fresh for longer. It is unique because they are not boiled before being pan-fried, thus giving the noodles a rougher and distinctive texture. Next stop is a confectionery store to try their local baked goods, followed by a visit to a local knife craftsman with over 150 years of history. From there we snack on fresh, seasonal, locally grown fruit at a local shop. The last dish is at a quaint local sushi bar, where we enjoy the original Mt. Fuji-shaped sushi.
